ONe God (God, Holy Spirit, Jesus)
Jesus is God in Human Form: The illustration of a judge pronouncing us guilty and then changing his clothes to come and take our penalty is an accurate one, because God is in three forms, God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit. Jesus was born of Mary and was a human, but he was also born of God (Joseph was not his Father, God was) and was also God. Consider that the Bible said that Jesus would be God in human form. Isaiah 9:6 says "For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. And the government will rest on his shoulders. These will be his royal titles: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Jesus is the Mighty God and Everlasting Father come as a human to save us. Consistent with his being God:
1. Jesus was eternal. John 2:1,14 says "In the beginning the Word (Jesus) already existed. He was with God, and he was God. So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father. " In John 17:5 Jesus prayed to God "And now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began." In Hebrews 9:14, speaking of how the eternal Jesus was a sacrifice for us, the Bible says "For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins."
2. Jesus was co-creator with God. John 1:3, continuing the passage above about Jesus (the Word or expression of God) "He created everything there is. Nothing exists that he didn't make" Colossians 1:15-17 says "Christ is the visible image of the invisible God He existed before God made anything at all.... Christ is the one through whom God created everything in heaven and earth. ... He existed before everything else began, and he holds all creation together." Hebrews 1:1-3 says " Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. But now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. . God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he made the universe and everything in it."
3. Jesus is almighty: Remember Isaiah 9:6 that referred to Jesus as Mighty God? Revelations 1:7-8 Jesus is speaking and says "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end"... I am the one who is , who always was, and who is still to come, the Almighty One."
4. Jesus has the same Kingdom as God the Father. Colossians 1:13, God the Father, speaking of Jesus says "For He has rescued us from the one who rules in the kingdom of darkness, and He has brought us into the Kingdom of his dear Son." Phil 2:5-11 says "Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God. He made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. And in human form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal's death on a cross. Because of this, God raised him up to the heights of heaven and gave him a name that is above every other name.
5. "At that name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth" Philippians 2:9-10
The Holy Spirit is God/Jesus in Spirit Form, living within believers
Jesus promised that when he left he would leave the Holy Spirit with us. John 14:16-17 is where Jesus said "And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth..." Speaking to Christians (those who have accepted Jesus as Savior) I Corinthians 3:16 says "Don't you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?" 1 Corinthians 2:12 says "And God has actually given us His Spirit (not the world's spirit) so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us." Galatians 4:6 says "And because you gentiles have become his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, and now you can call God your dear Father." Romans 8:9 says " ... You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them are not Christians at all. " 1 John 4:13 says "And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in Him and He in us."
